King Cake” traditionally refers to a festive cake associated with the Christian celebration of Epiphany, particularly popular during Mardi Gras season. While the classic King Cake has its own distinct flavors and traditions, variations incorporating hazelnut spread are becoming increasingly popular.

Ingredients

for 6 persons

  • 2 puff pastry
  • 170 g of spread
  • 1 egg for the gilding

Preparation :

Assembly of the cake

Place a dough in a pie pan or on the baking sheet covered with baking paper and prick it with a fork. Run a brush dipped in cold water over 3 cm of the inner edges to facilitate adhesion.

Garnish in the shape of a bear’s head with the spread on about 1.5 cm high, place the bean on one edge (to minimize the risk of falling on it when cutting the pancake!).

Close the pancake with the 2nd dough, cut the pancake in the shape of a bear’s head and glue the edges well (seal the edges with a little water). Brush the surface of the pancake evenly with gold in 2 batches, waiting a good ¼ hour between each layer. Decorate the pancake with the tip of a sharp knife and prick it with a few holes. Leave to rest for a few hours in the refrigerator

Cooking the galette

Prick the pancake and bake at 175 ° C for 40/45 minutes (preheated oven). Before tasting, do not hesitate to decorate the cake with a few candies, giving free rein to your imagination.
